About Taos Pueblo

A living Native American community, which is located at the base of the beautiful Sangre de Cristo Mountain range. Taos Pueblo is a place you will want to visit in New Mexico.
Taos Pueblo is built completely from adobe, a mixture of mud and straw, either shaped into bricks and sun-dried or poured into molds. The walls of these buildings are very thick. Large wooden beams, called vigas, brought from the mountain forests, support the roofs, which are then covered with a layer of packed earth. The homes in the pueblo are constructed next to and on top of each other, sharing walls but without any doors connecting them. Come visit and discover more about Taos Pueblo!
